  1. ~= means approximately.

    a) 1/sqrt(5)

    multiply by sqrt(5)/sqrt(5) to get

    sqrt(5)/5 ~= 0.447

    b) 10/sqrt(2)

    multiply by sqrt(2)/sqrt(2) to get

    10sqrt(2)/2 = 5sqrt(2) ~= 7.071

    c) 6/sqrt(12)

multiply by sqrt(12)/sqrt(12) to get 6sqrt(12)/12.

    6sqrt(12)/12 = sqrt(12)/2 = 2sqrt(3)/2 = sqrt(3) ~= 1.732

    d) 5/sqrt(5)

    multiply by sqrt(5)/sqrt(5) to get

    5sqrt(5)/5 = sqrt(5) ~= 2.236
